Few figures in American history have been as romanticized or as misunderstood as Pocahontas. This presentation takes a closer look at the real woman behind the legend, separating historical evidence from centuries of mythmaking.
From John Smith's writings to the 1995 Disney film, her narrative has been told and retold with varying degrees of accuracy and romanticism, blurring the lines between fact and fiction and obscuring themes of cultural conflict, colonization, and power dynamics.
This presentation invites audiences to question what they think they know and to discover the remarkable, complex, and all too human story of the real Pocahontas.
